UNM to enact hiring freeze due to possible budget cuts

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) โ€“ The University of New Mexico will enact a hiring freeze to deal with possible budget cuts.

UNM President Bob Frank told the board of regents Tuesday that the school may hire fewer faculty in non-critical positions.

Last month, Governor Martinez ordered state agencies to reduce their spending by at least five percent.

Martinez is expected to call a special legislative session to deal with the budget shortfall which is blamed in big part on dropping oil and gas revenue.
