Students at UNM are speaking out against proposed changes to sexual misconduct regulations.

The changes lead by Secretary of Education Betsy Devos would narrow a school’s responsibility to respond to a sexual misconduct report under Title IX and return some lost rights to the accused.

The proposal would also allow schools to punish students for assault claims deemed false.

Now, the Associated Students of UNM have passed a resolution challenging the proposal.

In a statement sent to KRQE News 13, President Becka Myers said in part, “no victim is responsible for the actions of a perpetrator.”
