ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A University of New Mexico professor is helping to thrust the university’s photography program into the national spotlight while also receiving an honor of his own.
The program has been named one of the best in the country. In fact, it’s tied with the School of Visual Arts in NYC for the fifth best graduate photography program as ranked by U.S. News.
The photography program started its transition into one of the best when Professor Jim Stone was hired in the mid 1990’s.
Since then, he and three other professors have turned it into the program that it is today.
“We sustained it. The advantage we had was we were one of the first programs in the country to teach photography integrated into an art curriculum,” said Professor Stone.
Not only has Professor Stone published numerous books that are used in classrooms nationally and internationally, he was recently named the Society of Photographic Education’s “2016 Honored Educator.”
Professor Stone says he doesn’t see the photography program slowing down any time soon and retirement is only a distant thought. For the full ranking list, click here >>
