UNM grad gets one step closer to one-way Mars trip

News

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – It’s been a long process for many, including local UNM graduate student Zach Gallegos. He’s just recently made the top 100 cut for the Mars One project, making it through thousands of people to get to this point. It’s been his dream ever since he was a kid, and now that dream is getting closer to becoming a reality.

Gallegos has just returned from Houston where he was training for the mission. As one would imagine, space travel is incredibly tough for any person to undertake, so Zach, along with others in the running, are training hard. He’ll soon be traveling to Europe to continue that training. From that point, there will be two more cuts, revealing the 24 who are taking the one-way trip to Mars.

You can learn more about the program and mission here.
