ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – More campus groups are calling for the university of New Mexico to change its seal.
Last month, KRQE News 13 reported about a Native American group calling on the university to throw out the current seal, created in 1969. They say the depiction of the conquistador and the frontiersman is a celebration of violence against their people, and even created an altered seal to get their point across.
Now, the UNM Kiva Club is joining in on the fight.
There will be a forum to discuss the seal at 4 p.m. on Sunday at the New Mexico Forum for Youth in Community.
