ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A doctor who has done a lot for cancer patients in New Mexico is being honored for her work.
Cheryl L. Willman, the director of and CEO of the University of New Mexico Cancer Center was given the “Women Who Make a Difference” award at a World Leadership Conference in Chicago.
Willman has spent recent years focusing on finding advances in leukemia treatments.
She recently identified leukemia causing mutations frequently seen in Hispanic and Native American children.
She was even invited by Vice President Jo Biden to the White House this year to be one of six cancer experts to discuss new national cancer initiatives.
