UNM awards degrees to students killed in crash

News

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Two University of New Mexico students killed in a car crash were honored this weekend. The families of Briana Hillard and Matthew Grant accepted posthumous degrees for them during a commencement ceremony Saturday.

Hillard and Grant were killed in November when they were hit by a stolen truck near Rio Grande and I-40.

Police say Joshua Leal and his passenger 16-year-old Miguel Hernandez fled the scene and were caught a short time later.

Two other UNM students were hurt in the crash.

The driver, Leal, is facing homicide charges.
