Unique workout getting people in shape for hunting season

It’s a combination of archery and CrossFit, a new fitness class offers an unconventional way of getting people trained for hunting season.

“Burpee’s lunges and situps you’re trying to do as many as you can but at the top of the minute you have to go up and shoot,” says Tammy Bingham, Owner of Crossfit Zephyr.

Hit or Miss Archery Center and Crossfit Zephyr have created a five-week fitness class to condition participants for hunting season.

“Being higher elevation if you have to hike up the top of the hill to be able to get to this animal or whatever you’re chasing. The combination of both of those you can really get fatigued fast,” says Neil Overbay.

Coaches say the Fit to Hunt class combines cardio, body weight movements, and carrying odd objects.

“Being out there you get to know different things that would help you there’s a lot of crawling in hunting. There’s lifting, you have to lift your gear an carry it places,” says Bingham.

They say if you aren’t conditioned properly…”that high altitude, if your cardio is out of shape and stuff like that you get up there and you’re hunting it can definitely impact your success,” Overbay says.

The better shape you’re in, the better your shot. When you’re shooting a bow you have to be calm and relaxed and not have any shaking in your forearm or any of that,” Overbay says.

The five-week class meets every Wednesday and cost $75.

If you missed this week’s workout, a make-up event will be held Saturday morning. For more information click here.
