Uber driver identifed in fatal I-25 shooting

Police have identified Clayton Benedict as the Uber driver involved in the shooting that happened along I-25 Sunday, March 17.

According to Officer Simon Drobik, Benedict is the driver that picked up James Porter and his friend on St. Patrick’s Day.

Officer Drobik says at this time, the case is active and complex and detectives are working to investigate leads. He also says detectives are continuing to work hand-in-hand with Bernalillo County prosecutors to prepare a complete and accurate case. 

According to police, the car pulled over on I-25 near Montano on March 17, and the driver and one of the passengers started fighting. APD says the fight escalated and the driver shot and killed 27-year-old James Porter.

Clayton Benedict has not been charged. There is no other information at this time.
