U.S. Senators’ bill would benefit Native American entrepreneurs

News

A bill filed in the U.S. Senate will benefit Native American entrepreneurs.

U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich are sponsoring the Native American Business Incubators Program Act. The act lays out a plan to expand entrepreneurship in Indian Country through a competitive grant program.

Sen. Udall says Native businesses often struggle with start-up challenges like difficulty accessing business loans, federal restrictions on leasing on tribal trust lands, and proximity to cities.

Supporters hope the funding will help small businesses grow more quickly on tribal lands.
