Two officers save newborn baby in Santa Clara

Two police officers are being credited with helping save the life of a baby just moments after it was born.

It happened last month in a home in Santa Clara, near Silver City.

One of the officers said “We heard a female voice from house saying ‘I just had a baby in the toilet and didn’t even know she was pregnant’.”

The baby survived thanks in part to Chief Lonnie Sandoval and Corporal Jaime Serrano.

The two now only kept the baby warm but noticed the umbilical cord was detached. So they tended to that and wiped the mucus from the baby’s mouth, making sure she was breathing.

She was then quickly rushed to the hospital.

Three drugs were found in the baby’s system. The baby is now in CYFD custody awaiting placement with a foster family.

There is no word yet if the mother will face any criminal charges.
