Trial held for man accused in Albuquerque killing spree

News

The man accused of murdering three innocent people went on trial Tuesday in one of those cases.

Yoan Santiesteban is accused of shooting and killing Matthew Severinghaus during an attempted robbery in 2017.

Police say he was Santiesteban’s third victim in a killing spree.

Santiesteban is also accused of killing Samir Al-Aboudy during a robbery at the Days Inn on Menaul, and Celina Arrellanes, who was caught in the crossfire of a drug deal gone bad.

Tuesday during opening statements, Matthew Severinghaus’ brother detailed the moments after his mother found her son’s body lying in their driveway near Montgomery and Tramway.

Police believe Santiesteban randomly picked Severinghaus and Al-Aboudy.
