The trial is underway for the man who allegedly shot an 8-year-old boy in a drive-by by shooting.
Espanola Police say 29-year-old Aaron Archuleta shot the boy in the shoulder back in 2015. The boy survived.
According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, Archuleta claims he was defending himself and his passengers from someone who had shot at his car beforehand.
However, prosecutors say the shooting stemmed from an altercation with the boy’s mother.
Archuleta is charged with child abuse and shooting at an occupied dwelling. He faces up to 27 years in prison if convicted.
