ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – One of the teens who beat two homeless men to death could be heading to adult jail.

Gilbert Tafoya was in juvenile lockup. While there, CYFD says he choked another inmate.

Now that Tafoya has turned 18, they’re asking he be transferred to the Metropolitan Detention Center.

Tafoya and two others beat the homeless men to death with bricks and cinder blocks while they slept in a lot on west Central.

The case was presented to a judge Friday, but a decision was not made. Another hearing is scheduled for Feb. 24.
