Teen involved in drive-by murder sentenced to 16 years in prison

One of the teens who killed an 18-year-old woman in a drive-by shooting has been sentenced to 16 years behind bars.

Joseph Sanchez was part of a group who opened fire on a home near Atrisco and Arenal. Police say they originally went there to rob someone.

They ended up killing Aliyah Garcia, who was sitting in a car outside.

Sanchez was facing 18 years for second degree murder, and Tuesday Judge Briana Zamora sentenced him to 16.

In court, the victim’s grandmother described a young life cut short just as it was beginning.

Four others, Patrick Zamora, Marisa Sepulveda, and brothers Carlos and Cisco Alires, also pleaded guilty for their roles in the shooting.
