A 17-year-old wrong-way driver has died after colliding with Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputy head-on.

The crash happened Friday night on Rio Bravo near the river as the deputy was headed westbound.

BCSO says both drivers and a 16-year-old passenger in the car headed the wrong way were taken to the hospital.

Another driver who was struck after the initial crash was also injured.

BCSO says the 17-year-old later died at the hospital but have not released the young man’s identity.

The other people involved are expected to survive.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident.
