Suspect shot during attempted robbery near Eubank, Candelaria

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A would-be armed robber has critical injuries after police say a convenience store clerk shot him.

It happened at the Circle K at the corner of Eubank and Candelaria just before 4 p.m.

Police say a man walked in with a gun and tried to rob the female clerk, but she shot the suspect in the chest.

Police say that the robber ran off, eventually collapsing in a parking lot behind the building. He was taken to UNM Hospital.

No other injuries were reported.

Police are looking into whether the shooting was captured on surveillance video. They say the suspect might also have been involved in an earlier armed robbery near Wyoming and Candelaria.

Police have not said if the clerk had a concealed carry license, or if she was allowed by her employer to carry a gun a work.
