Suspect caught on camera stealing packages charged

RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – He was caught on video stealing Christmas gifts from a New Mexico man’s front porch now police they’ve finally nailed him.

Thanks to clear home surveillance video police figured out who the holiday thief is.

Rio Rancho police say it all happened just days before Christmas. They say a local man ordered gifts online but he never got them. That’s because police say Ramon Trujillo got to those presents first.

The victim’s home surveillance video picked up a clear shot of Trujillo getting out of a black Chevrolet, walking up to the victim’s house and swiping a package.

Police say after KRQE News 13 aired the video, they got a tip and they matched a previous mug shot to the surveillance video.

“It can identify suspects, vehicles, other specifics concerning the crime that are important when we are investigating so at times they can be invaluable,” said Rio Rancho Police Cpt. Paul Rogers.

For some reason police waited a few months to go after Trujillo. Appropriately enough they just let him know he was charged by sending him a letter. In December police said they were investigating two other package thefts.

They don’t believe Trujillo is linked to them. Trujillo does have has a long criminal history, mostly for burglary.
