LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) – Dona Ana County Sheriff’s officials say they’ve made an arrest in a homicide investigation.
They say 34-year-old Rocky Armendariz is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Christopher Lauster early Tuesday.
Authorities say the 35-year-old Lauster was at a home with at least two other people when Armendariz allegedly showed up and confronted him.
An argument ensued and reportedly became physical.
A witness told sheriff’s detectives he heard a gunshot and then found Lauster on the ground.
Lauster was transported to a Las Cruces-area hospital with a gunshot wound and later died.
Authorities say Armendariz had an outstanding warrant for a probation violation.
He’s being held at the county Detention Center.
It was unclear Wednesday if Armendariz has a lawyer yet.
