Superintendent: Portales teachers could see pay raises

News

PORTALES, N.M. (KRQE) – Budget cuts are looming all across the state, but teachers at one school district may see pay raises.

According to the Eastern New Mexico News, Portales Municipal Schools Superintendent Johnnie Cain says the district may have enough money to give pay raises for the 2018-2019 school year.

That’s as long as the district’s unit value remains the same for the 2018-2018 school year.

The district says its unit value only decreased by 1.86 percent instead of a drop expected to be as high as 5 percent, due to a drop in student count.
