A new study says New Mexico leads the nation in hit-and-run deaths.

AAA says more than 2,000 people were killed in hit-and-runs in the U.S. in 2016.

That’s an all-time high and a 60 percent increase from 2009.

New Mexico has the highest rate of 31 hit-and-run crashes resulting in death in 2016, a 47 percent jump from the year before.
