BELEN, N.M. (KRQE) – The state is recognizing Belen High School for making the greatest strides in raising graduation rates.
Last year, the graduation rate increased by 15 percent in a single year.
The governor made the announcement Friday during a rally at Belen High with this year’s senior class. She says they have some big shoes to fill, but she knows their hard work will pay off.
In fact, the governor challenged them to aim higher.
“When you graduate its amazing what you can do once you’ve graduated, then you can see down the road what else can I do?” said Gov. Martinez.
The governor credits the increase in graduation rates on a statewide truancy crackdown and of course the hard work of students, teachers and their families.
