State Police investigates fatal officer-involved shooting

ARTESIA, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico State Police is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Artesia.

Artesia Police Department officers were dispatched to a “shots fired” call on July 26. Police say officers arrived and encountered an armed man, 36-year-old Juan Reynaldo Duran.

Deputies say Duran pointed a gun at officers and ignored commands telling him to drop the weapon.

Duran was shot and killed in the incident, according to New Mexico State Police.

The officer that fired the shots was Beth Hahn who has been with the department for two and a half years.

The investigation is ongoing.
