FARMINGTON, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexicans impacted by the Gold King Mine spill met with the state’s legal team Tuesday.
During Tuesday’s meeting Attorney General Hector Balderas gave an update on the situation and shared information with the community about possible legal steps that could be taken. Residents affected by the mine spill were also given a chance to share their stories with a special council.
“It’s imperative that we collect as much information as possible, which means there are no unimportant New Mexicans and there are no forgotten communities in the litigation,” said Attorney General Hector Balderas.
A cleanup team led by the US Environmental Protection Agency triggered the spill in 2015. The 3 million gallon blowout tainted rivers in New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah.
