ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Former Albuquerque Police Union President, Stephanie Lopez, is no longer facing charges.

Stephanie Lopez was accused of hitting her 14-year-old daughter “several times in the face,” and throwing her to the floor during a dispute over a utility notice.

Lopez’s attorney filed a motion in February hoping to get the charges dismissed, saying the state failed to prosecute the case within a 60-day window. That motion was denied, but in court Monday, KRQE News 13 learned that the state has dismissed the charges.

Lopez’s attorney says he was told by prosecutors that they need more time to investigate the case.

“They have the ability to file charges later, but they made the right decision this morning by dismissing this case, and we look forward to moving forward,” said Sam Bregman, attorney for Stephanie Lopez.

The judge also ordered the return of Lopez’s $5,000 cash bond.
