New Mexico State Police are investigating a police-involved shooting in Hobbs.

NMSP says Hobbs Police were serving a warrant to a homicide suspect on North Coleman Street in Hobbs around 7 p.m. Tuesday night.

Police say the suspect, Jose Acosta, sped off in a vehicle toward officers.

Authorities say that’s when a Hobbs officer fired a shot, striking the vehicle.

Acosta then lost control, driving into an electric pole and fence.

Police arrested Acosta and say he was treated for minor injuries on scene.

No officers were injured.

The name of the officer involved will not be released until interviews are conducted.
