St. Pius girls soccer seeking a 4th consecutive state title

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – They are the top seed in Class 5A for the State Soccer Tournament. Three time defending state champion St. Pius is thinking four-peat.

“It’s crazy how far we’ve come,” said senior Victoria Sanchez. “We just need one more. I am happy with the three we have but, the one would be absolutely amazing.”

The Sartans have a bye week as the top seed and will play the winner of a first round game between Los Alamos and Alamogordo.

“The pressure is on,” said St. Pius Coach David Sullivan Jr. “We had a conversation with the team the other day that the pressure is on our back but, we welcome that challenge.”

The Sartans will go into the tournament after a 15-4-1 regular season. They also have the top scorer in Class 5A to help alleviate some of that pressure.

Tatiana Limon has 33 goals. She started the season putting a lot of pressure on herself after a junior year that saw her score 11 goals in the first three games and get recognition in Sports Illustrated.

“My junior year is when everything came,” said Limon. “I broke records, Sports Illustrated. Everything was coming and so this year was kind of nervous. I didn’t know what to expect so I was kind of looking for goals. That’s when I realized I just have to play and have fun.”

Limon is the schools all time leading scorer. St. Pius will play their first game of the state tournament November 3.
