A special education teacher is facing child abuse charges for what he allegedly did to a student.
Travis Castillo works at Rio Grande High School.
According to a criminal complaint, a student was concerned about the way Castillo was dealing with special needs students so she recorded video of it.
One day, she captured video of a partially deaf and blind boy with down syndrome spilling his cereal, and Castillo slapping the back of his neck, then forcing him against the wall.
Castillo told police he has received special training in dealing with agitated special education students and only touched the boy lightly.
The officer says the video shows otherwise.
Albuquerque Public Schools says Castillo has been placed on paid leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
