ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – More than 20 kids are proud to be Americans after receiving their official citizenship papers during a special ceremony Friday.
Some were adopted by parents in the U.S.; others got their citizenship when their parents became citizens. The kids are from all over the world including Argentina, Germany and Iran.
“You live in this country, you should be a citizen if you live somewhere like this,” said Setayesh Fakhimi who is originally from Iran.
Federico Derard, originally of Argentina, said, “It’s important so we can be American now. Instead of just having a green card, we can now be American.”
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services put the ceremony together as a way to celebrate.
