Southern New Mexico wind farm project moves forward

A new wind farm has been given its first green light in Chaves County.

Oso Grande wants to build 32 wind turbines on a farm near the Caprock area northeast of Roswell. It would be part of a bigger project that covers two other counties.

While the power it generates would be sent to Tucson, the farm itself would create jobs and bring in money via property taxes and lease payments.

The Planning and Zoning Commission has recommended its approval. A public hearing will be held on May 23 and the commission will have the final say.
