Snow blankets Las Vegas, causes delays

LAS VEGAS, N.M. (KRQE) – Residents are waking up to fresh snow on the ground in parts of New Mexico.

There are a some delays and closures in the northern part of the state. KRQE News 13 was live in the Las Vegas area Monday night as that storm system rolled through the northeast parts of the state. Many of the roads in town are now covered, along with cars and about everything in the plaza.

KRQE News 13 did see a snow plow out working to clear the roads pretty quickly, but not everyone was prepared for the change.

“Usually it doesn’t come down as hard or stick as much,” said Joe Duley of Las Vegas. “Usually it just kind of blows through, but this looks like we’re going to get quite a bit tonight.”

Temperatures are cold across the state Tuesday and that could lead to icy roads. Crews are out plowing, salting and cindering, but as drivers hit the road, they should take it easy.
