A local chef is inviting neighbors to test out his own take on bar food available inside and outside of a East El Paso nightclub.
“This is my dream and I have accomplished it,” Chef and Co-Owner Fernando Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez is one of the owners of the food truck “Smash N’ Roll.” He has a kitchen located inside “Born TX Raised” on Zaragoza Road. The restaurant specializes in bar food, including fries and hot dogs topped with Hot Cheetos. The food truck is outside.
The name of the restaurant was inspired by what the chefs do.
“We smash the burgers with a special hammer that we designed and made. It’s not a press. And roll, like we are rolling all over El Paso,” he said.
Gonzalez met his business partner while working in a Las Vegas restaurant. He says that’s where the food truck design came from, but it wasn’t easy to turn their idea into something real. After spending plenty of money, Gonzalez says they got the food truck, but it was not 100% ready to go. Despite that, he says he kept working until his dream became a reality.
“My passion was always to open my own business.”
On Thursday, Smash N’ Roll is hosting a “Love Thy Neighbor” event, inviting residents and businesses from the surrounding area to try the new menu. The event is from 6-9 p.m. at “Born Tx Raised” at 2106 N. Zaragoza.
