The New Mexico Senior Olympics hosted basketball and volleyball tournaments at the Albuquerque Convention Center this weekend.
It was a chance for teams to qualify for the 2019 National Senior Games, which are being held in Albuquerque next June.
Make no mistake about it, these senior athletes mean business.
“These athletes are very competitive. They have it in their blood,” said Cecilia Acosta, Executive Director of NM Senior Olympics. “They’ve been playing sports for years. Some of them are starting back up after their retirement and some of them tell us it’s their 11th or 12th tournament.”
Nineteen states were represented at this weekend’s senior tournaments.
