Senators Udall, Heinrich push to keep national monuments protections

News

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Sen. Tom Udall is pushing the Trump Administration to not reverse protections of national monuments. He’s joined by several other senators including Martin Heinrich.

There has been concern that President Trump will reverse the designations made by President Obama shortly before leaving office, including the Bears National Monument in Utah which caused controversy.

Many called it an overstep by the federal government and are calling for a reversal. Others say it was done to protect archaeological and cultural sites.

New Mexico has 10 national monuments including White Sands, Bandelier and the Petroglyphs.
