New Mexico senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich sponsored a bill to keep Amtrak’s Southwest Chief Rail Service intact.
It runs across southern Kansas, Colorado and northern New Mexico on its historic route between Chicago and Los Angeles.
Amtrack was considering replacing rail service between Kansas and Albuquerque with a bus connection.
However, the new bill will provide $50 million in funds for track maintenance and safety improvements to make sure the route stays the same.
