A bill looking to revamp an outdated abortion law in New Mexico is dead.
Advocates for abortion rights sought to remove the ban in case the U.S. Supreme Court overturns a 1973 decision that made abortions legal.
New Mexico is one of nine states that technically bans abortion but allows women to have one. House Bill 51 aimed to get rid of the decades-old state law.
Thursday night in an 18 to 24 vote, the bill died in the Senate.
