Sen. Heinrich pushes to make White Sands a National Park

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (KRQE) – A senator is pushing to make White Sands a National Park.

Right now, White Sands is a National Monument, but according to the Santa Fe New Mexican, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich is working on a bill that would designate it as a park. The change would allow higher visibility, leading to more tourism.

Heinrich won’t introduce the bill until both Dona Ana and Otero counties agree to it.

He says he’ll probably work further on it next year.
