ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The group ‘Save Route 66’ is traveling the famous road over the next few weeks to gain signatures for their petition.
The group is following the road from Barstow, California to Chicago.
They are working to make a 100 mile stretch in the Majave desert a national monument. This would keep the area undeveloped, but open to the public for camping and hiking.
“There’s also some great historical landmarks, cultural places that have been there since Route 66 was first being driven that we want to keep untouched,” said Lucas Wilgers.
