Santa Fe Public Schools’ plan to hire three armed officers is on hold while the district sets new policies.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports lawyer Geno Zamora, an attorney hired by the district, says the schools have to meet mandates set by the New Mexico Public School Insurance Authority.

The Authority says districts must create the policies to ensure officers are properly trained, among other requirements.

The district wants to have three officers by the next school year.
