SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – Santa Fe Public Schools now has a permanent superintendent.

According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, board members voted to extend Veronica Garcia’s contract through June 2018.

Her title has also been changed from interim to permanent superintendent. Garcia will be paid $180,000 annually — the same salary Joel Boyd received before leaving the district in July.

Garcia served as Secretary of Education under Gov. Bill Richardson from 1999 to 2002.
