Santa Fe Police welcomed an honorary member to their team Wednesday.
Italy Suarez who is challenged by down syndrome got the opportunity to learn what it means to be a police officer.
Suarez tried on full SWAT and special weapons gear toured police facilities and was sworn in by the chief.
She then toured the Law Enforcement Academy and learned about crime analysis.
Suarez and her family ate lunch with officers to round out the special day and celebration.
