SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – The mother accused in the deadly abuse case of a Santa Fe toddler has pleaded not guilty.

Miranda Rabago was arrested in November. She took the child to the hospital after she claims she found him unconscious. However, police say the child had bruises on his body, a brain bleed and was severely malnourished.

Rabago, who is pregnant, was in court last week and pleaded not guilty, according to the Albuquerque Journal.

The Journal also reports old cell-phone photos were shown in court, showing fake tattoos on the child’s face and the words “thug life” written on his stomach as he appeared to be sleeping or unconscious.

Police also found blood on a pillow and spoiled milk in a sippy cup in the boy’s crib, along with a glass pipe with marijuana residue near the crib.

Rabago is charged with child abuse resulting in death.
