SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – A Santa Fe father has been arrested for allegedly beating up his son for not doing his homework.
Deputies responded to a call at Pablo Roybal Elementary after an 8-year-old boy was taken to the hospital with stomach pains and had difficulty breathing.
The child said his dad, 41-year-old Darryl Blakey, was mad at him for not doing his homework. Blakey later said he was mad at the boy for getting into trouble at school.
Deputies say Blakey hit the child between 10 and 15 times and it was “harder than he should have.”
Doctors determined the boy had suffered lacerations to his spleen and liver and was bleeding internally. The boy is now in CYFD custody.
