The Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society is losing a significant amount of money while trying to find animals forever homes.
According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, five years ago the shelter had almost $10 million in investments and $1.5 in cash.
Now, the shelter’s investments have dropped to half of that.
The New Mexican reports that the shelter has been drawing down its investment accounts to help cover operating losses.
From 2014 to 2017, those losses have totaled $7.1 million.
