Sandoval County approves sales tax increase to pay for jail repairs

News

Sandoval County Commissioners approved a sales tax increase to keep the jail from falling apart.

The 30-year-old jail needs $5 million worth of repairs.

Thursday night, commissioners approved an eighth-of-a-cent tax increase to fix things like chipping concrete walls and jail cell doors.

It will cost most people an extra $12.50 per year.

People will not see the increase reflected in their purchases until January 2019.
