ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Sandia National Labs could soon be under new management.

The $2.9 billion contract to manage the facility is up for bidding. It’s the first time in two decades.

The National Nuclear Security Administration is expected to issue a final request for proposals this month.

The current plan has April 2017 as the contract deadline.

Long-time lab operator Lockheed Martin has indicated interest.
