Sandia National Laboratories is getting national recognition for its 3D printer work.
Sandia Labs won the Federal Laboratory Consortium national 2018 Technology Focus Award for designing the first wind turbine blades using a 3D printed mold.
This development could dramatically shorten the time needed to build wind energy technology to 3 months and reduce the expense greatly.
It usually takes 16 months to build the same product the traditional way.
The labs’ creation of nanomaterial window films also won the lab an Excellence in Technology Transfer Award.
The films could potentially save billions in consumer energy costs each year.
