Roswell UFO festival tops quirky list

ROSWELL, NM (KRQE) – The Roswell UFO Festival celebrates the alleged flying saucer crash landing in July of 1947.

Now the festival is considered one of the top six quirkiest summer festivals, according to Motel 6 America’s Top 6 Quirkiest Festivals of 2016.

The list is comprised on how events give locals and tourists a chance to celebrate a community’s unique and quirky bits of history.

The three-day festival takes place June 30 through July 3 and includes guest speakers & authors as well as a costume contest for humans and pets and a parade.

Other quirky festivals include: the Avon Heritage Duck Tape® Festival in Avon, Ohio; June 17 – June 19, the Running of the Bulls in New Orleans, Louisiana; July 8 – July 10, The Gilroy Garlic Festival in Gilroy, California; July 29 – July 31, the Great River Tug Fest between LeClaire, Iowa and Port Byron, Illinois; August 11 – August 13 and the Bat Fest in Austin, Texas; August 20.
