Roswell residents upset after Trump signs stolen

ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE)- People in one New Mexico neighborhood say they’ve had it with others coming out at night and stealing things from their yards.

They say it’s been a problem for a while but when the vandals messed with their support of Donald Trump, it was a step too far.

What was once 11 signs in one block of this Roswell neighborhood, has now dropped to just five. Trump signs were that were targeted.

One man had given them out to people in this neighborhood on South Lea Street.

Nearly every house on the block had one until Friday night when someone came and stole more than half of them.

Neighbors say they think the signs were stolen by people who don’t like what they stand for but they say it won’t stop them from supporting Trump.

“Change our vote so it’s fruitless, itโ€™s stupid,โ€ said Louis Hein, who had her sign stolen.

Many neighbors here say this isn’t the first time things were stolen from their yards.

They wish that people had more respect for people’s property.

โ€œAmerica is a country of freedom where you can freely express your views without intimidation and harassment but this you could say is almost harassment,โ€ said Kaarina Jager, who lives in the neighborhood.

Some of the neighbors say they do plan on replacing their stolen signs.

Neighbors also say that they did report the stolen signs to police and have been told by law enforcement that they’ll be doing extra patrols in the neighborhood.
