ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – A Roswell mom is facing child abuse charges after she claims she was defending her son when she attacked a 12-year-old.
Police say that 12-year-old girl slapped Valerie Acosta’s son after he sexually harassed her friend. That’s when the boy went back home and told 34-year-old Acosta, who then allegedly attacked the preteen girl.
Acosta later told officers she would not have hit the girl if she had known what her son had done. But police say that is never the right way to handle the situation.
“It’s definitely not okay for an adult to go up to a child and assault them for whatever purpose,” said Todd Wildermuth, Roswell Police Department.
KRQE News 13 reached out to get Acosta’s side of the story but have not heard back.
